Hey y’all how is everyone doing on this fine ass Thursday. I hope everyone is getting pumped for Friday tommorow and is planning out there weekend now. So in baseball news my New York Yankees got swept by the Houston Astros in 3 games at Minute Maid park in Houston Texas. The Yankees have now fallen to a 5-7 record while the Houston Astros have risen to a 8-5 record. But there is some good news for my Yankees. And that is that there veteran and star left handed pitcher CC Sabathia is set to make his 2019 MLB season debut on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox at home against former New York Yankees Starting Pitcher Ivan Nova. CC had entered into 2019 MLB season on the DL due to the fact that he needed extra time to recover from heart surgery that he had in the offseason. CC has also announced in February that 2019 is going to be his last season in the MLB. CC first made his MLB debut back in 2001 with the Cleveland Indians at the age of 20. Since then CC has gone on to pitch in the MLB for a total of 18 years ( and will soon go into his 19th season in the MLB). In his time in the MLB CC has pitched for a total of three teams. The Cleveland Indians for 8 years from 2001-2008, the Milwaukee Brewers for one year in 2008 and the New York Yankees since 2009. So since it has now been two weeks since the official start of the 2019 MLB season on Thursday March 28th. ( I’m not counting the two game international series in Japan between the Oakland Athletics and the Seattle Mariners on March 20th and 21st). So while we are not even a month into the 2019 MLB season a lot has still happened and a lot has happened pitching wise in the past two weeks. And I definitely want to talk about all of it. So enough chitchat how about we jump right into this. So without further adieu here are the top 5 best pitchers in the first two weeks of the 2019 MLB season.
1. Cleveland Indians Starting Pitcher Mike Clevinger: Okay first guy on the list is the one and only Mike Clevinger. Mike currently is on the DL after having strained a muslce in his right shoulder in his previous start last sunday against the toronto blue jays. Mike is expceted to miss 6-8 weeks. Mike definitely had a great year in 2018 and so far excluding the injury he had really been pitching phenominally well in the first two weeks of the 2019 MLB season. Since the start of the 2019 MLB season mike has pitched and started in two games with the tribe. And has pitched a total of 12 innings with them as well. Getting a 1-0 record, a 0.00 ERA, 22 strikeouts and a 0.50 WHIP. Along with a 52.4 strikeout percentage, 16.50 strikeouts per every 9 innings pitched, a 5.50 strikeout to walk ratio, a 0.41 FIP, a 1.76 SIERRA, a 1.18 xFIP and a 0.8 WAR in 2 games pitched with the Cleveland Indians this year.
2. Tampa Bay Rays Starting Pitcher Blake Snell: Okay the second guy on the list is the one and only Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell. Blake is coming off an absoutetly spectacuaorly exceptational 2018 Season where he not only made it to his first all star game. But also won the 2018 AL Cy Young award and led the AL in both wins and ERA. And so far in the very young 2019 MLB season blake is still pitching at a cy young winner caliber. Blake currently has pitched and started in a total of 3 games and has pitched a total of 19.0 innings as well. Getting a 2-1 record, a 2.84 ERA, 27 strikeouts and a 0.89 WHIP in those apperances.Blake has also put up an absolutely amazing 38.6 stikeout percentage, along with 12.79 strikeouts per every 9 innings pitched, a 9.00 strikeout to walk ratio, a 3.45 FIP, a 2.21 SIERRA, a 2.16 xFIP and a 0.3 WAR in 3 games pitched with the Tampa Bay Rays this season.
3. New York Mets Starting Pitcher Jacob Degrom: Okay the third guy on the list is the one and only Jacob Degrom. Jacob really had a phenominal season in 2018 winning the 2018 NL Cy Young Award, led the MLB in ERA and made it to his second all star game apperance in 2018 with the Mets. Jacob was also by far the only good player in the 4th place 77-85 2018 New York Mets. So far this season Jacob has pitched and started in 3 games with the and has has pitched a total of 17 innings with the Mets. Getting a 2-1 record, a 3.18 ERA, 27 strikeouts and a 1.18 WHIP. 4. Detroit Tigers Relief Pitcher Shane Greene: Okay the second to the last pitcher in this list is the one and only Tigers Reliver Shane Greene. Shane started off his MLB career in pinstripes havinging been drafted by the New York Yankees in the 15th round of the 2009 MLB draft. Shane made his MLB debut with the Yankees back in 2014 and oddly I remember his time with the Yankees extremely vividly despite the fact that it was 5 years ago. So far this season Shane has pitched in a total of 8 games and 8.0 innings with the Tigers. Getting a 0-0 record, a 0.00 ERA, 8 saves, 8 save opportunities, 7 strikeouts and a 0.38 WHIP. Shane also put up a stellar 25.0 strikeout percentagem a 7.00 strikeout to walk ratio and 7.88 strikeouts per every 9 innings pitched. Along with a rock solid 2.10 FIP, a 3.02 SIERRA, a 3.73 xFIP and a 0.3 WAR in 8 games with the Detroit Tigers this year. Shane also made history this season when on April 7th against the Kansas City Royals he recorded his 7th save. Becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to records 7 saves in a teams first ten games since saves became an official MLB stat in 1969
5. Milawaukee Brewers Relief Pitcher Josh Hader: Okay last but not least is the one and only Josh Hader. Josh is coming of a red hot 2018 season with the Brewers making it to his first all star game and winning the 2018 NL reliever of the year award. Despite the fact that the 2019 MLB season is just 2 weeks old josh has already made histrory. Josh pitched his first and the first immaculate inning ( striking out three batters on 9 pitches) of the 2019 season. He did it against the St Louis Cardinals on March 30th at The Milwaukee Brewers home stadium Miller park in Milwaukee Wisconsin. So far this season Josh pitched in a total of 5 games and 7.2 innings with the Milwakee Brewers. Getting a 0-0 record, a 0.00 ERA, a 0.26 WHIP, 13 strikeouts 5 saves and 5 save opportunities.
