Catcher Johnny Bench Cincinnati Reds 1967-1983: Johnny Boy AKA Johnny Bench. Johnny Bench played with the Cincinnati Reds for 17 seasons and was in all star for 14 of them. Johnny played in two of the reds 5 world series championship teams one in 1975 and one in 1976 he not only took part in the reds back to back world series victories he was the mvp in one of them in 1976 when he was named World Series MVP. Johnny was also a 2 time NL MVP and NL rookie of the year in 1968 and he was known for his amazing discipline behind the plate his ten gold gloves are a testament to that.
There is even a college award given to the best catcher in NCAA baseball that year. The most famous winner is buster posey when he won the award in 2008 when playing for the florida state seminoles. Johnny stats were amazing he got 389 career home runs,2048 hits,1376 RBIS,1091 runs and 3644 total bases. The one thing i have to say is very impressive about him is in his first year of hall of fame eligibility he got a 96.42% vote the third highest of all time at the time
First Baseman Stan Musial St Louis Cardinals 1941-1963: Stan the man musial wow he is one hell of a player. I mean he is one of those players you cant help but love I mean he is easily one of the best hitters to ever play the game. He has the 4th most hits of all time 3630 hits and he has the 7th most rbis of all time with 1951 rbis. One amazing feat about stan is that he made it to the all star game 24 times he is tied with Willie Mays and Hank Aaron for most MLB all star game appearnces of all time.
Stan was also a 7 time NL batting champion and a 3 time NL MVP and a 3 time world series champion as well. Stan was even able to achieve a .331 career batting average and a .559 career slugging percentage. Stan was a very good home run hitter also he has 475 home runs and on average would get 25 home runs a season. Stan base running is also very impressive he has the 10th most career runs of all time with 1949 runs and stan has the second most total bases of all time. Stan has the third most doubles of all time with 725 doubles and the 19th most triples of all time with a 177 triples. Stan also managed to get a .417 on base percentage and a .976 career on base plus slugging percentage.
Second Baseman Rogers Hornsby St Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Boston Braves, Chicago Cubs and the St Louis Browns 1915-1937: Rogers aka ”the Rajah” was a MLB second baseman who played 23 seasons in the MLB Roger was also a manager in over half of his playing career being a player manager from 1925-1937 13 seasons.
Rogers batting statistics are sensational. He batted over .370 6 straight seasons from 1920-1925. He also batted over 400 4 times in his career with his highest batting average in 1924 when he had a .424 batting percentage. Roger has the second best career batting average of all time right next to ty cobb with a .358 career batting average. Rogers slugging percentage was also very magnificent with a .577 career slugging percentage and holding the title for the 10th highest slugging percentage in MLB.
He was also very noted for his outstanding on base percentage having an on base percentage that was over 450 ten times in his career. Roger was also very distinguished in the fact that he was a 2 time triple crown winner (one in 1922 when he got 42 home runs, a 152 rbis and a .401 batting average. on a side note he also got 250 hits that season the most in his career and .722 slugging percentage. And the second triple crown was in 1925 when he got 39 home runs, a 143 rbis and a .403 batting average) he was also a 7 time batting champion from 1920-1925 and once again in 1928. He was even a 4 time NL RBI leader and a 2 time NL home run leader as well and even a 2 time NL MVP and a world series champion in 1926 when he not only got to manage the winning world series team but play on it.
Shortstop Honus Wagner Louisville Colonels and the Pittsburgh Pirates 1897-1917: Honus just like his baseball card was a million dollar player. the baseball card reference was referring to his T206 baseball card made by the american tobacco company about only 200 cards were ever distributed to the public and the most recent one was sold in 2013 in an online auction for $2,105,770.
Honus was probably one of the best players to play in the dead ball era of baseball (the dead ball era was from around 1900-1920 and it was called the dead ball era because of how good the pitching was and how few home runs and runs were being scored.) Honus was a fantastic base runner in his career got 643 doubles (the 9th most in MLB history) 252 triples (the third most in MLB history) and 723 stolen bases ( the 10th most in MLB history)
Honus was even able to excel in total bases getting 4870 career total bases and 1739 career runs and honus can even show off a .391 career on base percentage and a .858 career on base plus slugging percentage Honus also was easily one of the best hitters in baseball history with 3420 career hits the 8th most in MLB history.
Honus manged to get over a 150 hits in 16 out of his 21 mlb seasons. Honus also got 1732 career rbis and was able to get a not to shabby .328 career batting average and a .467 slugging percentage. Other impressive feats of honus career was that he played in the first world series in 1903 when the pittsburgh pirates played the red sox in the 1903 world series they may have lost but honus at least managed to get a world series win in the 1909 world series when the pirates beat the detroit tigers 4 games to 3. Honus was also an 8 time NL batting champion in his career as well as a 5 time NL RBI leader and a 5 time NL stolen base leader and was inducted into the baseball hall of fame in 1936 on his first ballot and his number 33 is currently retired by the pittsburgh pirates.
third baseman Mike Schmidt Philadelphia Phillies 1972-1989: Mike was easily one of the best players of the 1970s and 1980s. Pete Rose even once famously said he would trade him and his wives body to have his that’s how good he was. In mikes 18 year career he only hit less than 30 home runs in only 5 seasons. His most home runs in a season was in 1980 when he got 48 home runs.
Mike is easily one of the best home run hitters in baseball history mike got 548 career home runs the 16th most in MLB history. Mike also has the unique distinction of being one of only 16 players in MLB history to hit more than 4 home runs in a game. Mike played in the phillies golden days from the 1970s to the mid 1980s. MIke also won a world series with the phillies in 1980 and was even named world series MVP for the 1980s world series.
Mike was a 12 time all star and a 10 time gold glove winner known for his amazing defensive abilities and he was even better known for his offensive playing abilities being a six time silver slugger award winner and a 8 time NL home run leader and a 4 time NL RBI leader and a 3 time NL MVP. While mike was and always be most known for his ability as a power home run hitter he also got 2234 career hits,1595 career rbis,1506 career runs and 4404 total bases.
Mike also managed to get a .267 career batting average, a .527 career slugging percentage, a .380 career on base percentage and a .908 career on base plus slugging percentage. After retiring from baseball in 1989 at the age of 39 he worked as a hitting coach for the philadelphia phillies and even worked as a color analyst for the phillies broadcast team and was inducted in the baseball hall of fame in 1995 on his first ballot with a 96.5% vote.
Left Fielder Pete Rose Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos 1963-1986: I bet i would put Pete in this article and then he bet $10,000 against me that i wouldn’t put him in. Okay i just couldn’t resist i had to pull in the joke on pete’s gambling addiction which got him banned for life from the MLB and from being inducted into the baseball hall of fame for betting on MLB teams and on the Reds but never against them.
Yup Pete is no questions asked the greatest hitter in MLB history. Some say ichiro with his hits while playing professionally in japan with his 4276 career hits combined with playing in japan and in the MLB. Pete has the most career hits in MLB history with 4256 career hits and averaging a 194 hits a season and getting 10 seasons with more than 200 hits. Pete also has the most career at bats with 14053 career at bats and the most career plate appearances with 15,890 career plate appearnces and he even played in the most career MLB games playing in 3562 games and pete also has the most career singles in the MLB with 3,215 career singles.
Pete is also known for having the 6th most career runs with 2,165 career runs. Pete also has the distinction of having the 8th most total bases in MLB history with 5,752 career total bases. Pete also had several other very good stats such as 1,314 career rbis and a .303 career batting average, a .375 career on base percentage, a .409 career slugging percentage and a .784 career on base plus slugging percentage.
Pete also will be known for in his MLB career being a key part of the big red machine during the 197os which refers to how amazing the cincinnati reds played in the 1970s winning 6 national league west division titles, 4 national league pennants and two world series wins. He and reds catcher Johnny Bench, reds second baseman Joe Morgan and reds first/third baseman Tony perez were key members and key contributors to the big red machine. Center Fielder Willie Mays San Francisco Giants/New York Mets 1951-1973: Willie Is probably the most iconic san francisco giants player in history and one of the best living former MLB player of all time. Now what makes Willie so well Known is his catch during game 1 of the 1954 world series against the cleveland indians where he leaped to the warning track and then into the centerfield wall to catch vic wertz fly ball and prevent him from getting the home run. The catch is so amazing and probably not only the best catch in baseball history but of sports history as well.
Willie is also well known for his all star game performances and how he made it to the all star game 20 times during his 22 season career. Willie also won a world series in 1954 the one where he would have his infamous catch. Willie was also a 2 time NL MVP and 2 time MLB all star game MVP and Willie also managed to win 12 gold gloves.
During Willies 22 year career he would get the 5th most home runs of all time with 660 home runs and the 12th most hits of all time with 3283 hits. Wille also holds both the 11th most rbis of all time and 7th most runs of all time as well with 1903 rbis and 2062 runs and just when you think willie can’t get any better i go and tell you he has the third most total bases of all time with 6066 total bases.
Willie would put up a very good batting average with a .302 career batting average and he would also get a .557 career slugging percentage and a .384 career on base percentage and a .941 career on base plus slugging percentage.
Right Fielder Hank Aaron Milwaukee/atlanta Braves and the MIlwaukee Brewers 1954-1976: Hank Aaron aka “hammerin Hank” played 23 seasons in the MLB Starting in 1954 with the milwaukee braves and even playing with them when they moved to atlanta in 1966 and would finish his career once again in 1976 playing with the newly established milwaukee brewers.
Now hank is definitely most known for his home runs having 755 home runs the second most in baseball history right next to barry bonds and breaking babe ruth home run record on april 8th 1974 at the then atlanta braves stadium atlanta-fulton company stadium against the los angeles dodgers.
Besides Hanks home runs he is known for having the most rbis in mlb history with 2,297 career rbis and also the most career extra base hits with 1,477 career extra base hits and the most career total bases in mlb history with 6,856 career total bases. Hank also got the third most career hits in MLB history with 3,771 career hits and the 4th most career runs in MLB history with 2,174 career runs.
