Okay around four days ago i wrote who i believed would be the perfect american league all star team starting roster for the upcoming all star game and then i realized that the national league is LIT this year i mean i never thought in a million years that the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals would be the most savage teams in baseball. so without further adieu here is my perfect national league starting roster for the all star game
Starting Pitcher Jake Arrieta Chicago Cubs: there are two people most men cant score with Kate Upton and Jake Arrieta. Yes this year it looks like we will have a little subway series Pitchers dual between crosstown rivals Chicago White Sox star pitcher Chris Sale and Chicago Cubs star pitcher Jake Arrieta.
Jake has only started being good in 2015 and so far he has a CY Young, the title of the 2015 MLB regular season wins leader and two no hitters and he is no doubt making it to the all star game. i think it is safe to say that Jake is definitely making up for his bad first 5 MLB seasons.
Anyway lets look at Jake’s season stats so far. Jake currently has the best ERA in the MLB right now with a 1.29 ERA. Jake has faced 236 batters this season and has struck out 63 of them giving him the 9th most strikeouts out of any starting pitcher in national league and a 26.7 strikeout percentage the 10th best out of any national league pitcher.
Jake also has pitched a total of 63 innings and has started in 9 games meaning that on average he pitches for 7 innings each game and he is really resilient and a strong iron horse starter and currently has an 8-0 record a perfect record and has managed to not lose a single game so far this season giving him just like his crosstown rival pitcher Chris sale a perfect 1.000 win percentage.
Jake also on average gets 9 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched and also on average only allows 0.29 home runs per 9 innings pitched as well and Jake has the second best WHIP (walks plus hits per 9 innings pitched) out of any national league player with a 0.84 WHIP so i think that the all star game is definitely calling Jake
Starting Catcher Jonathan Lucroy Milwaukee Brewers: okay as a lot of you may know Jonathan is known for his discipline behind the plate catching. Jonathan won the fielding bible award in 2014 for being the best defensive catcher in the MLB that season and he also made the all star team in 2014 and was the NL doubles champion in 2014 leading the NL with doubles with 53 doubles.
Now his heyday might of been two years ago but i think Jonathan has once again found his spark and here’s why.
right now Jonathan is the runs leader for all NL catchers with 24 runs. Jonathan also leads all NL catchers with total bases having 72 total bases. Jonathan also has a .341 on base percentage and Jonathan also has 8 doubles,1 triple and 1 stolen base and right now Jonathan has the highest ultimate base running value out of any NL catcher according to fan graphs with a 1.3 Ultimate base running value.
Jonathan can also hit as well he has the second most home runs out of any 2016 national league catcher with 6 home runs. He is also tied with Wilson Ramos for third most hits out of any 2016 national league catcher with 44 hits. Jonathan also has 17 rbis and a .275 batting average (third best out of any 2016 NL catcher).
Jonathan is even quite a slugger with his .275 slugging percentage which is the best out of any NL catcher this season and if you combine his on base percentage and his slugging percentage you will get something called an on base plus slugging percentage which Jonathan has the highest out of any NL catcher with a .791 on base plus slugging percentage
Starting First Baseman Anthony Rizzo Chicago Cubs: Anthony Rizzo is the right starting first baseman for the right team and at the right time. as in he is part of the sensational 2016 Chicago cubs. i mean words cannot express the breathtaking performance of the miraculous 2016 cubs.
i mean they currently have the best percentage in baseball not just out of the NL central or the national league but out of all of baseball the cubs currently have a 31-14 record and a .689 win percentage and Anthony is definitely helping them keep there throne as the best team in baseball now.
currently Anthony has 11 home runs, 39 hits,35 RBIS and 29 runs and he is in the top 5 stat leader for NL first baseman for three of the aforementioned stats. he is NL first baseman stat leader for RBIS and runs and has the second most home runs out of any NL first baseman with 11 home runs right behind Milwaukee Brewers starting first baseman Chris Carter.
The only stat he is not in the top leaders board for NL first baseman is hits he currently has the 9th most hits out of any national league first baseman with 39 hits.
Anthony is also a pretty good base runner as well he currently has the second most total bases out of any national league first baseman with 83 total bases. he is also at the moment currently tied with two other players at third place for the most doubles with 9 doubles and he has 1 triple as well and has 2 stolen bases to. his on base percentage isn’t to shabby either with it being .371 which is the third best out of any NL first baseman.
Anthony is definitely a star player his only two weaknesses are getting hits and his batting average definitely needs improvement with it being only .234 but he makes up for that with his amazing .497 slugging percentage. so i think it is safe to say this cub will make it to the all star game and fingers crossed the world series as well.
Starting Second Baseman Daniel Murphy Washington Nationals: Damn Daniel Back at it again with those MLB leading batting averages over .390. Ah good old Daniel Murphy AKA D-Rex or the Irish hammer or as i call him worst thing to happen to the cubs since Steve Bartman. You can call Daniel many things but one thing i am calling Daniel is NL all star teams starting second baseman.
this former NY Met is now in his 8th MLB season and his first season not with the Mets. Daniel is currently the nationals starting second baseman and probably the MLBs best hitter.
I mean right now he has a .394 batting average the highest in all of the MLB not just the NL. The second best batting average in the MLB is Ryan Brauns .361 batting average and Daniels batting average is still 33 points ahead of his. Daniel also has the most hits in the MLB with 69 hits. Daniel currently has had a 175 at bats this season and 69 hits meaning he gets a hit roughly every 2.5 at bats.
Daniel also has the 4th best slugging percentage in the MLB with a .617 slugging percentage. Daniel also has 7 home runs and 30 RBIS and 26 runs so when it comes to putting numbers on the scoreboard for the nationals Daniel is very reliable for the nationals.
Also Daniel is a very good base runner as well having a .426 on base percentage, 14 doubles and having the most total bases out of any national league player with a 108 total bases. So hopefully once July comes around we will all be saying damn Daniel back at it again with being named the national league starting second baseman for the all star game
Starting Shortstop Trevor Story Colorado Rockies: I am going to tell u about a story the story of Trevor Story. Trevor story is a 23 year old MLB rookie playing for the Colorado Rockies. Trevor is having a good rookie season so far he is the nationals starting shortstop. But i know what you’re thinking a lot of MLB players were named starters there rookie season. But Trevor is different than any MLB rookie.
Trevor was not intended to be the Rockies starting shortstop. The Rockies 2015 starting shortstop Jose Reyes when he was suspended for the whole month of April by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred in February of 2016 for a domestic violence issue with his wife when the two of them were on vacation in Hawaii. During the Rockies 2016 spring training.
Trevor competed neck and neck with Rockies player Cristhian Adames for the role of starting shortstop for the 2016 MLB regular season. Trevor managed to bear out Cristhian for the role and was named starting shortstop for the Rockies for opening day.
Now what Trevor will be known for in 2016 was not his rookie season but his first week in the MLB. on April 4th 2016 opening day for the Rockies.
Trevor managed to get his first MLB home run in just two at bats when he blasted a three run home run off Zack Greinke at diamondbacks home stadium chase field in Arizona. Trevor then managed to get a second home run that day as well getting his second MLB home run in just his third MLB at bat.
Trevor is one of only six players to hit two home runs in the MLB debut the last time the feat was accomplished was on august 7th 2010 when Toronto Blue Jays JP Arencibia rookie hit two home runs in first MLB game against the Tampa bay rays at rogers center in Toronto
But Trevor being the sixth MLB player to get two home runs in his MLB debut isn’t even the most impressive thing about his first week in the MLB. Trevor managed to get another home run in his second game being the third player in MLB history to get three home runs in his first two MLB games.
And just when u thought Trevor couldn’t get any better he got a two run home run in his third MLB game becoming the first MLB player in history to get a home run in each of his first three games and the first MLB player and the first MLB player to get a home run in each of his first 4 hits.
And in his 4th MLB game Trevor decided to be a show off and get another home run becoming not only the first MLB player to get a home run in each of his first 4 games in the MLB but also the first player in MLB history to hit six home runs in the first 4 games of a MLB season.
in the month of April alone Trevor managed to get 10 home runs tying him with former MLB first baseman and Boston Red Sox hall of Famer George Scott who managed to get 10 home runs in the month of April in his rookie season in 1966
Now sorry to go of on Trevor story but this guy is a legend either way just focusing on his total stats right now and not the ones in his first week in the MLB Trevor is more than qualified to make the all star game and be named the national league starting shortstop for the all star game i mean lets take a look at his stats so far this season
Trevor has the third most home runs in the national league and the most home runs out of any national league shortstop with 13 home runs. Trevor is also tied with hunter pence for the fifth most RBIS out of any national league player with 33 RBIS and Trevor also has the most RBIS out of any NL shortstop as well.
Trevor has had a 184 at bats so far this season and has managed to get 50 hits out of those 184 at bats meaning he gets a hit around every 3.68 at bats giving him a .272 batting average and he also has an impressive .587 slugging percentage which is the best out of any national league shortstop
Trevor is also a very good base runner having a .325 on base percentage,11 doubles, 4 triples, 3 stolen bases and he leading all NL shortstops in total bases with a 108 total bases and he is currently tied with Corey Seager for second most runs by an NL shortstop with 28 runs.
Trevor has definitely been one of the most talked about topics in the 2016 season with his historic first week in the MLB and i think it is safe to say when people ask for the story of the 2016 national league all star game roster Trevor story will definitely be a part of that story.
Starting third baseman Nolan Arenado Colorado Rockies: Okay right now Nolan is the neglected older child of the Colorado Rockies who all the attention is going to his baby brother (Trevor Story) who everyone in the family cant stop talking about and always want to see him first and never ask what hes been up to up with.
yup the #struggleisreal for Nolan Arenado. He has a lot of talent and could be viewed as the Rockies key player for the 2016 season but so much of the attention is on Trevor now.
But that doesn’t mean Nolan isn’t good and that he hasn’t had his spot in the limelight before. Hell last season he hit 42 home runs. 42 i mean its amazing he was tied with Bryce Harper for the third most home runs last season and he also had the most RBIS in the MLB in 2015 with a 130 RBIS.
Now Nolan does have a lot of raw talent that can be used at third base for the all star game. One thing i haven’t talked about today is fielding ability and since good fielding is so vital at third base with it being just 90 feet away from home plate he needs to be able to quickly get anyone out in the nick of time before they get to third or try and steal third.
Nolan has the highest fielding percentage out of any national league third baseman with a .993 fielding percentage. Nolan also has the most assists out of any national league third baseman with a 111 assists and Golan has the most total catches out of any national league third baseman.
But enough with fielding lets look at Nolan’s offensive stats. Nolan currently has the second most home runs in the national league with 14 home runs and the second most RBIS in the national league with 35 RBIS Nolan also has the third most runs in the national league with 33 runs and Nolan also has the 4th most total bases in the national league with a 102 total bases.
Nolan has had so far this season a 179 at bats and has 51 hits meaning he gets a roughly ever 3.5 at bats and he also as i mentioned before has 14 home runs and 14 out of 179 means he gets a home run roughly every 13 or 12.5 at bats. Nolan also has a .285 batting average and a .570 slugging percentage both are in the top two stat leader spot out of any national league third baseman for both batting average and slugging percentage.
Nolan is somewhat of a good base runner having the most total bases out of any national league third baseman with a 102 total bases and he currently has a .355 on base percentage. Hopefully both Nolan and Trevor will be starters this year for the all star game.
It would be nice to see them both play but either way i have a feeling Nolan has already secured his spot as the starting third baseman for national league team in the 2016 all star game.
Starting Left Fielder Ryan Braun Milwaukee Brewers: What do McDonald’s hamburgers and Ryan Braun both have in common. They are both very popular and injected with growth hormones. okay enough with the jokes about Ryan’s steroids scandals.
Ryan is having a good season so far he is right behind Daniel Murphy in both batting average and slugging average with Ryan having the second best batting average in the national league with a .361 batting average and him being in third place in slugging having a .599 slugging percentage trailing once again right next to Daniel Murphy once again.
yup Ryan is doing pretty good so far.i mean he has had a 147 at bats this season and has gotten 53 hits meaning he gets a hit roughly every 2.7 at bats and he has as i mentioned 9 home runs so far this season and out of a 147 at bats. that means he gets a home run around every 15 at bats
Ryan also has the most RBIS out of any national league left fielder with 30 RBIS. Ryan also has the third most walks out of any national league third baseman as well with 17 walks.
Ryan also has 8 doubles and 3 stolen bases and 88 total bases which is the most out of any national league left fielder and he also has an astonishing .427 on base percentage and a marvelous 1.025 on base plus slugging percentage. so as long as they dont do any drug tests soon i think Ryan will make it
Starting Center Fielder Yoenis Cespedes New York Mets: Yoenis came close to getting a world series ring last year and this year he looks very close to making to starting NL center fielder for the all star game. despite the fact that Yoenis didn’t get a world series ring he sure is playing like a world series player as in he is playing at his best.
Right now Yoenis is the MLB home run leader with 15 home runs. Yoenis 15 home runs are pretty impressive considering the fact that he has had a 153 at bats so far this season and 15 home runs out of a 153 at bats means he gets a home run every ten at bats.
Yoenis can also get some RBIS as well currently having 36 RBIS the third most in the MLB and the most in the national league. Yoenis also has 28 extra base hits this season which is the fourth most in the national league.
Yoenis also has a .301 batting average and a .660 slugging percentage which is the second best in baseball and the best in the national league. Yoenis also at the moment currently has 101 total bases and a .378 on base percentage and an even better 1.038 on base plus slugging percentage. At least with Yoenis at the all star game New York will have one good baseball player there (sighs).
starting right fielder Bryce Harper: okay just like with Mike Trout Bryce needs no introduction. Bryce had been going through a slump this month in may he went two weeks without a home run from may 13th to may 26th.
when people started to suspect Bryce was in a slump. so nationals manager dusty baker let him sit last Wednesdays game out. And that sure did pay off well because yesterday he hit a home run so spectacular i think that if there are baseball gods they were weeping.
i mean i cannot express how amazing this home was.During the sixth inning of yesterdays game against the cardinals at nationals stadium.
Bryce Harper hit a massive home run that was projected to be around 437 feet and a 107 MPH. This home run was the longest home run of the 2016 season and the best part was he hit this home run without any batting gloves on.
Bryce so far has 12 home runs tying him for the 5th most home runs in the national league. Bryce also has gotten 32 RBIS,35 hits and 29 runs. while Bryce stats may be lacking his usual best in baseball stats.
Like this season he has just a .245 batting average but he does have a .545 slugging percentage and he does have a .426 on base percentage which is the best out of any national league right fielder.
Now if last night monster home run isn’t an indication that Bryce is over his slump i don’t know what is. I think Bryce will really be able to catch up to his true talents in the month of June and by the all star game he will be significantly better and besides he is like the most famous MLB player right now and every baseball fan is going to vote him into starting right field for the all star game even if his stats are lagging.
